A sliding door system for a vehicle includes a door frame defining a door opening and a sliding door covering at least a portion of the door opening in a closed position. The upper door slide assembly and the lower door slide assembly collectively interconnect the sliding door to the door frame and each are configured to slide the sliding door relative to the door frame from a closed position to an open position to position the sliding door forward or rearward of the door opening.
