Systems and methods are provided for a hardware accessory with embedded logic features that facilitate communication with a password manager and fast text entry in an application login dialog screen. The hardware accessory embodies a portable electronic device, such as a USB accessory that can be physically attached and detached from a personal computer. The hardware accessory may also be embodied as a portable computing device, such as a mobile phone, which may be wirelessly coupled to and decoupled from the personal computer. Passwords may be maintained in a cloud-based library and may be retrieved by a personal computer or a mobile computing device.
