Summary:Provided is a cosmetic which has an excellent infrared protection effect and has a unique moist feel when used. An oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic comprising the following components (a) to (d): (a) metal oxide particles which have an average particle diameter of 500 to 1500 nm and which have been subjected to a surface hydrophobic treatment; (b) hydrophobically modified alkyl cellulose; (c) an aqueous phase thickener; and (d) an oil component, in which the metal oxide particles are dispersed in the oil component, and the content of a nonionic surfactant having an HLB value of 10 or more is less than 1.0 mass%. 提供红外线防御效果优异，并且具有独特的水润的使用触感的化妆料。一种水包油型乳化化妆料，其包含下述成分(a)～(d)：(a)平均粒径为500～1500nm，并且进行了表面疏水处理的金属氧化物粒子；(b)疏水改性烷基纤维素；(c)水相增稠剂；以及(d)油分，此时，金属氧化物粒子被分散在油分中，并且HLB值为10以上的非离子表面活性剂的含量小于1.0质量％。
