The invention provides a housing sealing system and a sealing method. A battery housing assembly includes: first and second pieces of a housing having an interior region; a plurality of fasteners that engage the first piece and the second piece at a fastening interface; and a sealing system sealing the first piece and the second piece at a sealing interface external to the plurality of fasteners with respect to the interior region.
