Summary: | In a device comprising a vibrating nozzle part, a source of vibrating movement is connected to a relatively large, relatively stationary mass body or anchor so that the equal and opposite momentum of vibration of the handpiece (plus large mass body) results in a very small amplitude of vibration of the handpiece plus mass body while the movable nozzle part has a high amplitude of vibration. In an example, a mouth member engaged with a portion of a dental arch is actively cleaning, while a block on the other side of the dental arch is used to anchor the vibration source to the larger mass body of the user's lower jaw (and head). When the block is gripped by the user's lower jaw, the vibration of the handpiece or the user's tooth-lower jaw-head mass will be very small, so the mouth member will vibrate at a greater amplitude than when the anchor is absent. This results in a greater efficiency of the device.
