A mechanical hard disk and solid state disk hybrid storage system and method is provided with a cold/hot data separator which is used for inserting or moving data pages to the heads of corresponding linked lists after read or write access, then two LRU linked lists maintain read-write pages which are accessed recently, screen out hot read data pages, and cache the hot read data pages in an SSD cache all the time.
