Summary: | Methods and systems for token-based out-of-chain mutual authorization are disclosed. The hub computer may maintain a network of out-of-chain (or "layer-2") channels between itself, the cryptocurrency issuer computer, and the cryptocurrency custody computer. The out-of-chain channels correspond to one or more underlying block chains. The hub computer may receive an access token, a resource provider identifier, and an interaction value. The hub computer may use the access token to identify a cryptocurrency issuer computer associated with the mobile device and use the resource provider identifier to identify a cryptocurrency keeper computer associated with the access device. The hub computer may update the state of the out-of-chain channels corresponding to the two computers based on the interaction value, and then send an authorization response message.
