Summary:A smart cable lock is provided that is configured to mechanically secure an article and to provide an automatic determination of effecting securement. The smart cable may be integrated into the vehicle, or otherwise may communicate with the vehicle. The vehicle includes one or more ports configured to receive the cable when not in use. In some embodiments, the accessory includes one or more ports configured to engage with a connector. In some embodiments, the cable is secured at one end to the vehicle, for example, using a retractor, and the cable may be unwound, wound with the device, and then secured to a port on the vehicle. The smart cable lock secures and releases the latch based on user indications and authorization.
