According to one aspect of the application, provided is a fault monitoring device for an elevator motor, comprising: a memory; a processor coupled with the memory; and a computer program stored on the memory and operable on the processor, the operation of the computer program resulting in the following operations: A, determining a component of a stator coil current of an elevator motor at one or more characteristic frequencies from a measurement of the stator coil current; and B, determining whether the elevator motor has a stator coil turn-to-turn short circuit fault or not based on the component.
