Summary:The invention provides an electrolyte and application thereof. The electrolyte comprises a basic electrolyte component and first additive ions, the first additive ions comprise at least one of nickel, copper, manganese or vanadium ions; the total molar concentration of the first added ions is less than or equal to 0.15 mmol/L; also included is a second additive ion, such as at least one of gold, bismuth or lead. According to the invention, the occurrence of hydrogen evolution side reaction in the reduction process of the chromium ions in the negative electrode electrolyte can be effectively reduced by adding the first adding ions with a specific adding amount, and the redox kinetics can be improved and the reaction activity can be improved by further adding the second adding ions.
