Embodiments of the present invention relate to composite structures and foams having graphene sheets on at least one outer surface thereof rather than in a middle portion thereof, a method of preparing the foam, a composite laminate structure having the foam, a method of preparing a composite laminate structure having the foam, a laminate structure having graphene sheets on at least one outer surface thereof; and a method of making a laminate structure having graphene sheets on at least one outer surface thereof.
