Summary: | The invention provides an electro-optical time-of-flight range finder with a receiver chain. An electro-optical range finder according to the time-of-flight principle is provided having a receiver chain that generates digital signals from received light pulses, the receiver chain comprising: a photodetector; a first gain stage, in particular a transimpedance amplifier or current mode electronics, for converting an input current associated with the return light pulse from the photodetector into an output voltage; a filter; the analog-to-digital converter, the digital signal provides an explicit relationship between the intensity-time delay of the light pulse and the signal shape-time delay of the electrical signal, for which purpose the photodetector, the first gain stage and the analog-to-digital converter are adapted to each other, the analog-to-digital converter (and any other receiver chain component after the filter (if any)) remains unclipped within its linear operating range even if the first gain stage |
