A phosphor powder which contains phosphor particles that are represented by general formula Mx (Si, Al) 2 (N, O) 3 +/-y (where M is Li and one or more alkaline earth metal elements, 0.52 < = x < = 0.9, 0.06 < = y < = 0.36) and in which a portion of M is substituted with element Ce, the Si/Al atomic ratio being 1.5-6, the O/N atomic ratio being 0-0.1, 5-50 mol% of M being Li, and 0.5-10 mol% of M being Ce.
