A medical injection device includes a housing having a distal end and a proximal end; a brake tower having a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a sidewall defining a longitudinal axis between the proximal end portion and the distal end portion; and a cartridge received within the housing at a distal side of the brake tower and holding a composition therein. The device also includes a retaining ring positioned between the proximal end portion of the barrel and the distal end portion of the brake tower, where the retaining ring may be secured to an inner surface of the distal end portion of the brake tower.
