The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating human rhinovirus (HRV) infection. The composition comprises a hexaldehyde sugar wherein the hydroxyl group at carbon 2 of the hexaldehyde sugar is substituted with any one of H, F, Cl, Br, I, SH, Me, OMe and SMe, such as 2-deoxyglucose. Furthermore, a dispenser for intranasal administration, such as a nasal nebulizer or nasal drip containing the pharmaceutical composition, is provided.
