Summary:Techniques of the present disclosure relate to proactively selecting a lens for a camera focusing process. The test equipment may inspect a lens by dry fit alignment of the lens with a particular set of production components. If minimum focus performance cannot be achieved, the lens will not be used for the final camera assembly. In some cases, unused lens groups are rescuable for use with another camera assembly. Advanced CMAT equipment may calculate and apply rotations for unused lenses to improve their focusing performance when they are used next for final assembly. The maximum number of attempts to rotationally fix a group of lenses can be observed to avoid attempting the same lens again and again, which may never be successful. In this manner, since the actively selected lens can also be rotated during production, a final camera assembly that may pass through the EOLT can be produced and waste can be minimized.
