Summary: | A sterile acidic liquid having an effective solute concentration in the range of 0.3 to 0.6 Osm/L and a pH in the range of 3.7 to 4.2 can be used to treat an injured oral cavity in a mammalian subject. When used during a surgical procedure on a mammal, the liquid composition can be introduced into an injured cavity at a surgical site, thereby reducing the bio-load in the injured cavity. Advantageously, the composition does not need to be diluted or removed prior to engaging a surgical wound.
