In one embodiment, a system includes a display source to generate pixel data for a frame to be displayed, generate a display update notification message including information about the pixel data, and generate a display data message including the pixel data. The system further includes conversion circuitry to generate, based on the display update notification message, one or more first packets formatted according to an input/output (I/O) protocol and including information in the display update notification message, and generating one or more second packets formatted according to the I/O protocol and including pixel data based on the display data message.
