An opening and closing body for a vehicle is provided with: an outer plate constituting an outer cover plate; an inner plate disposed so as to face the outer plate; a hinge that is provided to a base end section, which is an end section on the rotational center side of the vehicle opening and closing body, and that connects the vehicle opening and closing body to the vehicle body; a latch that is provided to a swing end part, which is an end part on the opposite side from the base end part of the vehicle opening and closing body, and that locks the vehicle opening and closing body to the vehicle body side; and a reinforcing member that reinforces the inner plate. The inner plate is provided with: a main surface section extending so as to face the outer plate; a peripheral surface portion extending from an outer peripheral edge of the main surface portion toward the outer plate and having a latch mounting portion formed thereon for mounting a latch; and a rib part which is formed on the main surface part in a
