Summary:The present invention describes a modified catalyst support in the form of particles of titanium dioxide having a volume median diameter in the range of 100 [mu] m to 1000 [mu] m, modified with one or more refractory oxides of a metal selected from zirconium, lanthanum, cerium, yttrium and neodymium, wherein the total refractory oxide content of the modified catalyst support is in the range of 0.1 wt% to 15 wt%, and the modified catalyst support has a pore volume in the range of 0.2 cm3/g to 0.6 cm3/g and an average pore size in the range of 30 nm to 60 nm.
