Summary:Disclosed herein are polypropiolactone-based polymers, copolymers, and polymer systems, which may be biodegradable and may enhance the recyclability of the polymer system, may be functionalized to introduce a desired functionality into the polymer, and/or may be optionally prepared from renewable raw materials. Novel functionalized beta propiolactones are disclosed. Some novel functionalized beta-propiolactones have functional groups bound to the ring structure of the lactones that provide improved polymer systems. Novel homopolymers of functionalized beta propiolactone are disclosed.
