Summary:The invention relates to a method for the direct reduction of a metal oxide-containing feedstock by contact with a thermal reduction gas in a reduction unit (1) in order to produce a metallized material, in which the directly reduced product is discharged from the reduction unit (1) by means of a product discharge device (3) which is purged with a barrier gas, the exhaust gas is withdrawn therefrom and subsequently dedusted. The exhaust gas is dry-dedusted and the content of at least one gaseous component is reduced by catalytic conversion or combustion.
