The invention provides a metal ion adsorbent and a preparation method and application thereof.The metal ion adsorbent is obtained through reaction of superfine pulverized coal, a silane coupling agent and dicarboxylic acid, and the metal ion adsorbent is prepared from, by weight, 80-120 parts of pulverized coal, 10-40 parts of the silane coupling agent containing active groups and 2-50 parts of dicarboxylic acid, the silane coupling agent containing the active group is an amino-terminated silane coupling agent. According to the metal ion adsorbent provided by the invention, a carboxyl group is reserved and can react with residual metal (aluminum, titanium or zirconium) in the cycloolefin copolymer, generated organic carboxylic acid metal salt is attached to the surface of the metal ion adsorbent, and meanwhile, the superfine pulverized coal also has a certain physical adsorption effect on the residual metal; the metal elements in the cycloolefin copolymer are effectively removed through the synergistic adsorp
