Summary:The invention relates to methods and systems for simultaneous assessment of airway wall density and airway wall inflammation. A method of assessing airway wall density and inflammation includes segmenting a bronchial tree to create an airway wall map; for each branch, taking from the map a set of positions of the walls forming each branch and sampling values in a virtual non-contrast image of the bronchial tree, and, given a sample set of pre-contrast densities, calculating the values to produce a bronchial wall density for each branch, thereby producing a density metric; for each branch, taking a set of positions from the map forming the walls of each branch and sampling values in the contrast agent map of the bronchial tree, and, given a sample set of contrast agent ingestion, calculating the values to produce bronchial wall ingestion for each branch, thereby producing an inflammation metric; and determining a treatment or predictive outcome for the patient by using the density and inflammation metrics. 本发明
