Summary: | The present invention provides a method of detecting or predicting recurrence of multiple sclerosis in an individual having a form of multiple sclerosis, comprising: (a) providing a blood sample of the individual; (b) testing the blood sample to determine the activity or level of a protein wherein the protein is Factor VIII, von Willerand factor or Protein C; and (c) detecting or predicting recurrence of multiple sclerosis in the individual if the protein activity or protein level increases compared to the protein activity or protein level in the individual not having the form of multiple sclerosis and the baseline value of the patient itself. The present invention also provides a method of treating a subject suffering from multiple sclerosis, which subject is experiencing or is predicted to experience recurrence, comprising treating a subject by administering a dose of a steroid or anticoagulant compound effective to alleviate symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
