Location monitoring systems (e.g., alarm systems employed at homes or other locations) may include wireless battery-operated camera devices. The imaging apparatus may have a low power mode in which all components other than the low power communication module are deactivated. The camera device may be activated by a signal received by the low power communication module, and the camera device may establish a direct communication link with a remote server and transmit video image data to the remote server.
