Summary: | A method for producing a lithium nickel metal oxide material and a particulate lithium nickel metal oxide material having a defined crystallite size are provided. Such materials can be used as cathode materials for secondary lithium ion batteries. The method comprises: a first calcination step comprising heating at a temperature of between about 460 DEG C and about 540 DEG C for a period of between 3 hours and 10 hours; and a subsequent second calcination step comprising heating to a temperature above about 600 DEG C for a period of time between 30 minutes and 4 hours.
