Summary:The invention relates to a cushioning element utilizing foam particles. Disclosed herein is a cushioning element comprising a first layer comprising a recess defined by a first surface and a first feature disposed within the recess of the first layer, the first feature comprising more than one attached foam particle. The cushioning element may optionally include a second surface opposite the first surface, the second surface defining an interior of a chamber that may be at least partially filled with a fluid. The first component may be thermally bonded or adhesively bonded to the first surface or the second surface. Methods for manufacturing the cushioning elements and articles including the cushioning elements are also provided, including articles of footwear, articles of apparel, and articles of athletic equipment.
