Provided is a rubber composition which can improve the balance between hysteresis loss under low strain and hysteresis loss under high strain of rubber. The rubber composition contains a rubber component and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of general formulae (1) and (2). General formula (1): HS-R-COOM General formula (2): MOCO-R-(S) n-R-COOM (In the formula: R moieties are each independently a linear or branched alkylene group in which the number of carbon atoms in a linear moiety connecting a sulfur atom to a COOM group is 8 or more; each M moieties independently represent an atom selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal; and n is an integer of 2-8). 本发明提供一种橡胶组合物，其可以改善橡胶的低应变下的滞后损耗和高应变下的滞后损耗之间的平衡。该橡胶组合物包含橡胶组分和选自由通式(1)和(2)组成的组中的至少一种化合物。通式(1)：HS-R-COOM通式(2)：MOCO-R-(S)n-R-COOM(在式中：R部分各自独立地为其中在将硫原子连接至COOM基团的直链部分中碳原子数为8以上的直链或支链亚烃基；M部分各自独立地为选自由碱金属和碱土类金属组成的组中的原子；并且n为2～8的整数)。
