The invention discloses an ultraviolet light ionization source and an ultraviolet light ionization method, the ultraviolet light ionization source comprises an ultraviolet lamp, a first ionization cavity and a second ionization cavity, the first ionization cavity is provided with a light through hole for receiving emergent light of the ultraviolet lamp, a reverse purge gas inlet and a purge gas outlet; the second ionization cavity is communicated with the first ionization cavity, a first electric field for introducing initial ions into the second ionization cavity is arranged in the first ionization cavity, and the initial ions generate collision reaction with sample molecules in the second ionization cavity to ionize the sample molecules. According to the embodiment of the invention, the purging gas is introduced to remove neutral gas such as ozone generated by direct irradiation of the ultraviolet lamp, and meanwhile, the reverse purging gas flow is used for bringing the auxiliary reagent into the first ion
