Summary: | The present invention provides a semipermeable membrane having enhanced alkaline stability and a method of forming a semipermeable membrane having enhanced alkaline stability, the method comprising the steps of: providing an ultrafiltration (UF) alkaline membrane; immersing the UF membrane in a solution comprising at least one substance selected from the group consisting of polymers, preferably polyethyleneimine (PEI), condensate solutions, and mixtures thereof, thereby forming a reactive moiety on the UF membrane; and forming at least one first layer on at least part of the UF alkaline support membrane by soaking the UF alkaline support membrane of step b in a solution comprising at least one component selected from the group consisting of polymers, preferably polyethyleneimine (PEI), condensate solutions and mixtures thereof, thereby forming a crosslinked skin layer on the surface of the alkaline membrane.
