Summary:Compositions, such as catalyst precursors or catalysts, comprising a Cr-coated silica support having particularly defined amounts of Na and Al are disclosed such that the resulting Cr/silica catalyst has improved MI potential. In an embodiment, the disclosed catalyst composition comprises a silica-containing substrate made using an alkali setting gel and containing a catalytically active metal consisting of Cr, having less than 50 ppm of Al impurities and less than 800 ppm of the catalyst composition of Na. The disclosed compositions have improved MI potential compared to catalysts having a higher Al content, a lower Na: Al ratio, or both.
