Summary: | A thermal management system (270) for a rechargeable secondary battery has an electrically insulating material (262) lined inside a metal housing (260). One or more battery packs (24) made of individual cells (12) arranged within the end frame (220) are arranged in the metal housing (260). The thermally conductive particulate filler (264) occupies a gap (264A) between the individual cells (12) and a space between the battery pack and the electrically insulating material gasket (262). The thermally conductive filler (264) reduces thermal impedance from the battery pack (24) to the outer surface of the metal housing (260) to reduce battery pack temperature and extend battery life.
