Summary: | The present disclosure relates to a process for converting methyl halide to ethylene and propylene, the process comprising the steps of: (a) providing a feed stream comprising methyl halide; (b) providing a first and a second catalyst composition, the second catalyst composition comprising a cracking catalyst; (c) contacting the feed stream with the first catalyst composition in a first reaction zone under first reaction conditions to provide a first product stream; and (d) subjecting at least a portion of the first product stream to olefin catalytic cracking with the second catalyst composition in a second reaction zone under second reaction conditions to provide a second product stream. The process is noticeable in that the step (c) is carried out at a temperature below 400 DEG C and the first catalyst composition comprises a molecular sieve having Si/Al atoms between 2 and 18 and having a plurality of pores having the shape of an 8-membered ring or less.
