Summary: | Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed for a compact compressor, including a gas turbine engine defining an axial direction and a radial direction, the gas turbine engine including an axial compressor and a radial compressor, where the axial compressor is located axially forward of the radial compressor, a vane assembly including a separator shroud, the separator shroud being located axially forward of the radial compressor, the vane assembly is arranged to divide incoming air into an axial air flow for the axial compressor and a radial air flow for the radial compressor, the vane assembly rotates relative to the axial compressor and counter-rotates relative to the radial compressor, and wherein the vane assembly is axially rearward of the radial compressor.
