Summary: | The present invention relates to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) type cannabinoid compounds for use as medicaments. The THC-type cannabinoid is an enantiomer of (-)-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol, which is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, which can be found in cannabis plant lines that have been cultivated to produce THC as the major cannabinoid. It has been found that the specific enantiomer (-)-cis-tetrahydrocannabinol has properties different from those of (-)-trans-THC which is naturally occurring. It has been found that cannabinoid (-)-cis-THC is present at low concentrations in specific cannabis plant lines that have been cultivated to produce cannabidiol (CBD) as the major cannabinoid. In addition, cannabinoids can be produced by a synthetic means.
