Summary: | The present disclosure relates to the field of measuring the three-dimensional shape of 3D structures, particularly wind turbine structures such as wind turbine blades, using fiber optic strain sensors (i.e., fiber Bragg gratings, FBGs). Disclosed is a device and a corresponding method for measuring the three-dimensional shape of a structure by being slidably coupled to the structure such that a deformation of the structure other than elongation or shortening causes a corresponding deformation of the device, the device comprising: a flexible beam; three or more optical fibers arranged longitudinally parallel within the beam and having a lateral distance between the optical fibers in at least two different lateral directions; wherein the optical fiber comprises a plurality of sensor areas distributed along the optical fiber, and in each optical fiber, each sensor area comprises a fiber bragg grating.
