Summary:The battery separator is used for a lithium battery and comprises a microporous membrane which is rolled and stretched by a dry method; or comprising a dry-stretched microporous membrane having a population of micropores different from round pores, for example, the population of pores being slit-shaped, trapezoidal or rectangular. The holes are openings or gaps between adjacent sheet layers, and one side or two sides of each hole are adjacent through filaments or bridging structures between adjacent sheet layers. The present invention can reduce the porosity and/or improve the lateral tensile strength of the multilayer microporous membrane in a controlled manner. The multilayer microporous membrane provided by the invention is easy to coat with a polymer ceramic coating.
