Summary: | Methods and systems are described that enable vehicle route planning based on availability of radar localization objects. A request to navigate to a destination is received, and at least two possible routes to the destination are determined. Availability of radar-located objects for the possible routes is determined, and routes are selected based on the availability of the radar-located objects. Further, the vehicle is localized based on radar detection of the radar localization object while traveling along the route. A radar positioning quality of the positioning is monitored and a determination is made that the radar positioning quality has decreased or will decrease. The route is modified and/or the operation of the radar module is adjusted based on the radar positioning quality degradation. In this manner, the availability of radar localization objects may be used to select an optimal route and adjust current navigation along the route to minimize driver takeover.
