Summary: | A cross-reality system enables any of a plurality of types of devices to efficiently and accurately access previously stored maps and render virtual content specified in relation to those maps. A cross-reality system may include a cloud-based positioning service that responds to a request from a device to position relative to a stored map. Any type of device having native hardware and software configured for augmented reality operations can be configured to work with a cross-reality system by incorporating components interfacing between a native AR framework of the device and a cloud-based positioning service. These components may present location information about the device in a format identified by the positioning service. Further, these components may filter or otherwise process perceptual data provided by the native AR framework to improve the accuracy of positioning.
