The synthesis method of the transition metal iridium complex photocatalyst comprises the steps that an intermediate I formed by reacting 2-bromine-5-methylpyridine and 4-fluorophenylboronic acid serves as a ligand and is subjected to a coordination reaction with an iridium compound to form an intermediate II, and then the intermediate II and a ligand 4, 4 '-dibromo-5-methylpyridine compound are subjected to a reaction to form the transition metal iridium complex photocatalyst. The preparation method comprises the following steps: reacting 5, 4-bis (trifluoromethyl)-2, 2-dipyridyl or 5, 5-bis (trifluoromethyl)-2, 2-dipyridyl to obtain an intermediate III, and finally reacting the intermediate III with an ammonium hexafluorophosphate aqueous solution.
