The present invention relates to a pomegranate extract comprising: i. At least 10% by weight of punicalagin relative to the total weight of the dry extract; and ii. At least 10% by weight ellagic acid, based on the total weight of the dry extract; and wherein the weight ratio [ellagic acid/punicalagin] ranges from 0.5 to 2. The invention also relates to a method for preparing the extract. Another object of the invention is a preparation comprising said extract and at least one water-miscible organic solvent preferably selected from the group consisting of lower alcohols containing from 2 to 8 carbon atoms and in particular from 2 to 6 atoms.
