Described herein are examples of smart welding masks having multiple functions beyond conventional welding masks. For example, a smart welding mask may be configured to detect whether/when the mask exceeds one or more temperature thresholds, which may alert an operator to welding distances too close and/or welding times too long. Other example smart mask functions may include the ability to display (and/or otherwise output) feedback/guidance and/or welding information, as well as to communicate with an appropriate person.
