The invention discloses a method and system for improving the response speed of a dynamic lightning protection system, and the method comprises the following steps: S1, building a modular multi-level unified power flow controller circuit model which comprises a parallel converter connected to an AC power grid through a parallel transformer and a series converter connected to the AC power grid through a series transformer; s2, on the basis of the modular multilevel unified power flow controller circuit model in the S1, constructing a current transfer function of a parallel converter, and obtaining a d/q axis current control model of the parallel converter; s3, on the basis of the d/q-axis current control model of the parallel converter in the S2, calculating to obtain an equivalent open-loop transfer function of the d/q-axis current control model of the parallel converter; s4, obtaining a current loop cut-off frequency expression according to the equivalent open-loop transfer function of the d/q-axis current c
