A configuration for enabling a UE to transmit data from an AP to a modem without an uplink grant from the modem. An apparatus receives a data transmission from a base station. The device stores the data transmission in a memory of an AP of the device. The apparatus identifies, by the AP, an uplink grant based at least in part on a size of a modem buffer. The apparatus determines, by the application processor, whether to transmit data to the modem based at least in part on the identified uplink grant.
