The method for determining the overburden porosity comprises the following steps that an overburden porosity model of a target reservoir is constructed, and the overburden porosity model of the target reservoir is a logarithmic relation model between the overburden porosity and overburden pressure of the target reservoir; and based on the overburden porosity model of the target reservoir, the overburden porosity of the target reservoir is determined according to the overburden pressure and the normal pressure porosity of the target reservoir. According to the method for determining the overburden porosity, the overburden porosity of the target reservoir under different pressures can be rapidly and accurately calculated, a data basis is provided for shale gas reservoir evaluation, and the method is of great significance to evaluation of shale reservoirs and shale oil and gas reserves.
