The invention relates to a network interface device. Embodiments are disclosed that include a network interface device comprising a first communication component for connecting to a data transmission network and a second communication component for connecting to a peripheral device. In some embodiments, a network interface device includes a network controller operatively coupled to a first communication component and a second communication component, wherein the network controller is configured to receive data from a data transfer network and to transfer data to a peripheral device. The network interface device may also include a monitoring component communicatively coupled with the first communication component and the second communication component.
