The invention relates to a variable display device and a color-changeable packaging material. A variable display device according to the present invention is characterized by including: a substrate; a photonic crystal coating layer formed on the substrate and including a first component layer and a second component layer above the first component layer; and a protective layer which is formed on the photonic crystal coating layer and through which at least one of external humidity, temperature, light, and pH can pass, wherein at least one of refractive index, volume, penetrability and reflectivity of at least one of the first component layer and the second component layer varies as at least one of humidity, temperature, light and pH of the outside varies. 本发明涉及可变显示器件及可变色的包装材料。本发明的可变显示器件的特征是，包括：基材；光子晶体涂膜层，其形成于基材上且包括第一组件层及第一组件层上部的第二组件层；保护层，其形成于光子晶体涂膜层上且可使外部的湿度、温度、光、pH中的至少一个通过；随着外部的湿度、温度、光、pH中的至少一个发生变化，第一组件层和第二组件层中的至少一个折射率、体积、穿透性、反射性中的至少一个发生变化。
