Summary:The present invention provides an electrochemical cell based on new chemicals for flow batteries for large scale (e.g., grid scale) electrical energy storage. Electrical energy is chemically stored in the electrochemical electrode by protonating small organic molecules, called quinone to hydroquinone. The protons are provided by a supplemental electrochemical reaction at the other electrode. These reactions are reversed to release electrical energy. A flow battery based on this concept may operate as a closed system. Compared with a solid electrode battery, the flow battery structure has an amplification advantage on large-scale energy storage. 本发明提供一种基于新的化学物质的电化学电池,用于大规模(例如电网规模)电能储存的液流电池。通过使所谓醌变成氢醌的有机小分子质子化,电能以化学方式储存在电化学电极。通过在另一个电极的补充电化学反应提供质子。使这些反应逆转以释放电能。基于该构思的液流电池可作为封闭系统操作。液流电池结构相对于固体电极电池对于大规模储能具有放大优势。
