Summary:The purpose of the present invention is to provide alumina to be used in a slurry capable of suppressing irregularities on the surface of a porous film. The present invention is an alpha-alumina having a crystallite size of 95 nm or less and a lattice strain of 0.0020 or less determined by Rietveld refinement. The BET specific surface area of the alpha-alumina by the nitrogen adsorption method is preferably 10 m2/g or less.
